National Glacier Park 09.08.24

One of my favourite places to drive through is National Glacier Park, BC. The mountains stand tall, the glaciers normally look healthy and the views are unbelievable.

There are a few campsites in this area right in between Golden and Revelstoke. Loop brook campground you can book in advance online. Illecillewaet Campground is a first come, first serve campground with 60 spots available! You are able to purchase firewood, there are flush bathrooms and many trails in the area to explore.

I did the Asulkan Valley Trail and I ran! For the first time in a long time. I didn;’t make it all the way to the top as i knew i had a big day the following day but I completed 12km! As you could imagine, i was incredibly sore the next day and slept terribly that night.

I couldn’t help but smile the entire time. The trail offers stunning 360 views with waterfalls, rivers and streams, mountain flowers and a really great trail to follow through. All the leaves are changing color, the fresh cold air is rolling in. It is one of the most perfect times to be outside!

After my front country camp, I headed up Hermit Trail to stay at the campground there. This hike is a short and sweet 4KM with 800m of elevation gain. It’s a steep hike that takes about 3 hours. The views at the top are indescribable. It makes you feel safe and as if there are no problems in the world. I enjoy coming up here for reflection and to hike around too. With my one quick night there, i explored familiar areas and took stunning photos of the sunset.

If you’re ever wondering what its like to take a little outdoor trip alone, do it. Do it in a familiar ish place with people around if your worried about being too remote. Have an activity to do, or bring a book or something to do alone, but soak it in. The sounds, the smells the experience is so relaxing.
